My new album Seidfylgjur has been recorded during winter/spring 2019. It’s been an intense process shared with Gustav Holberg who has been recording and mixing this album together with me. It is the first time that someone gets involved with all recordings right in the creation of songs, allowing me to sing more freely and let inspiration flow in a new dynamic way. We spent several months in Seidsang Studio, between work with music and time within nature, witnessing the change of energies from the darkness of winter to the awakening of spring as a mirror of an inner journey. This album is once again reflecting a journey within the subconscious to shine a light in the most hidden places within the soul.
My personal intention that gave me inspiration was to deepen my understanding of a spiritual concept called «soul retrieval». Its recording took me on a journey through different landscapes of melodies, atmospheres and energies from nurturing to ecstatic trance. Soul retrieval is the belief that when we experience something traumatic, a part of our soul «leaves» the body and the idea is to travel to where this piece of ourselves is hiding to bring it back within and make us more whole again. This is a process that asks us to travel to a special place and time when and where we have experience something very dark and give it a lot of nurturing and loving energy to show the part of ourselves that is deeply wounded that we can create a safe place for it to be welcome back and transform old wounds to a new breath of life.
Seidfylgjur refers to a seid ceremony when the norse fate deities who are personally following you since birth called fylgjur guide you in the spiritual world, guiding to the time and place along the woven threads of your life the soul needs to revisit to reintegrate your whole self.
Mastered as always by my good friend Markus Skroch at Kalthallen Studios
